What's Website Warfare?

This topic could be an unusual one for the reader. We will quickly see that it is not so uncommon in our high tech world today.

What is Website Warfare? It is an onslaught, a down right attack of the enemy [demonic forces] affecting a website. We can consider it spiritual warfare of the website kind. www

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NKJV

This may seem far-fetched, but to the Christian website designer and owner, it’s common place and to be expected. There are continual subtle attacks of the enemy [Satan] on a day to day basis in our walk with Christ. There are a few testimonials in this article that will help the reader to understand what one is up against when developing a website on the World Wide Web.

Our enemy, Satan is ruler over the airwaves, the unseen realm. So it stands to reason that the Internet would have a wide range of attacks on websites that are a beacon of light into that vastness of the Web. Our warfare is to combat these issues with constant communion with our Creator, standing firm in our faith and fervent prayer. He is our LORD of all, and in the end of this age, we triumphantly win with him and the enemy is defeated! But for the moment spiritual war is a part of our lives.

Jesus said..."But when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place: and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Matthew 6:6 NKJV

What are a few subtle attacks that can be expected when entering the WWW?

  • Hackers: they can wreak havoc on a website and it’s a good idea to have your website hosted on a server with good backup.
  • Spammers: you can be certain that you will receive unsolicited emails on a regular basis. There are many service providers that offer programs to combat this increasing issue.
  • Guestbooks/Forums: this is a perfect place in which some unwanted guest can sign in and take over with spam. It’s a very good policy to monitor your guestbook/forum. Most guestbooks offer an automatic screening service which, allows the guestbook owner to preview entries before posting them to the Web but, most free forums notify a webmaster once a post is already listed on the forum.
  • Electrical Issues: this is one that baffles the best of us and it’s a good place and time to enter into a time of intense prayer when these types of problems occur. [See testimonial] More often than not it’s warfare of the website kind!
  • Website Flaming: this is something that is unexpected and most often the website owner is totally unaware of it. Slander or [flaming] is considered taboo, expecially in e-mail. Below is a personal testimony of flaming I experienced via the Web. Covering the entire website, incoming e-mail, computer hook-ups, staff and anything else that is directly related must be kept in prayer.

Let not the slanderer be established… Psalm 40:11a NKJV

Personal Testimony
I personally had an experience with website flaming. I had placed a page for a missionary friend on one of my 3 websites. She had said some controversial things [which I knew nothing of] that came back negatively to her but, had also focused on my website. There was a link in Google that stated negative things about the missionary and posted the link to my website in the description! What she had said was unintentional and she made a public apology. It was something totally unexpected and I am thankful that a friend had noticed the negative link to my website while doing a Google search. What was my course of action? Immediately I deleted the page and emailed the missionary on what was going on. This stopped any further communication from the bad link to my site.

mini light bulb TIP: Doing a Google search once in a while to investigate your links under your domain name is a safeguard in preventing this type of thing from happening to you.To find out how your pages are indexed on Google, go to the search and type in: allinurl:www.yourdomainname.com This query will return results of the number of pages indexed of your site.

Client Testimony on warfare
Web site warfare.... We know about that, yes indeed. It’s not just hackers that have come in and changed or added things or even the occasional wacko that signs your guest-book with a suspicious link. What we experienced recently was worse. Our ministry is for hurting disadvantaged children. We have a poll on our site about how people feel about our cause. Someone had the audacity to click "I have no compassion for these children" as a choice in taking the poll. But this wasn't just a one-time attack. This person was determined to show us their ignorance. For days we were flooded with e-mails from this same person taking our poll over and over again, somewhere around 20 to 30 times within a weeks time.

Thanks to our quick and efficient web master we no longer have that option available on our website poll. All and all even with the up and downs of the WWW it's worth it in the end. Our website has taken us from being a local children’s charity, to a national children's charity. Lives being blessed is always cause to stir up demons. I did a Google search and found a website that I could enter the IP# and find the source of our disarray. (ARIN WHOIS) Thank You Jesus we can stand in your light and swallow the darkness. ~ Standing on Luke 10:19

Testimonial
I had an appointment with one of my new clients to set his website in motion. [I have asked his permission to put his testimony in this article.
Genesys Corp] He had recently purchased broadband cable and had it hooked up to his entire computer system. He had been enjoying the high speed for over a month without a glitch. The very morning of our meeting the broadband cable was going haywire, the repairman was called and my client decided to attend his weekly Christian Business meeting prior to our appointment. The group covered our appointment in prayer.

My client arrived at his office just minutes before I had pulled up. He quickly turned on the office computer system and came outside to greet me. We said our greetings and went into the office to get to work. Everything was working perfectly! We had a fantastic meeting and set all things into motion for his website. The funny thing was as soon as our meeting was over and I had left, the broadband went haywire again! We both came into agreement that God had purpose in our meeting and the enemy was not going to thwart this website from bringing forth it’s light. To God be the Glory! Roz

Prayer is a strong wall and fortress of the church; it is a godly Christian's weapon.
--Martin Luther

When entering the World Wide Web, prayer must be a vital part of our plan to make our Internet endeavor a success. If you are going through something right now, pray this prayer below and stand firm in the wiles against the enemy. God is able to bring you through into abundance and His favor.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor thing present nothing to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our LORD.
Romans 8:38 & 39
