Search Engine Insights
Submit your site to the Web

Search engine submission is the biggest process to a website besides the actual development of the site. There are hundreds of companies promising to send a website to the top ten list in Google and other major search engines when a search for key words is performed. Their claims are definitely real but realize, that this is a temporal thing and in a few days someone new will replace your site in the ranks of the top ten lists. These online companies work in the area of search engine submission on a full time basis with special submission software and marketing experts.

Sometimes search engine ranking for a site brings lots of traffic with no results in sales or communication from a visitor. Depending on the vision that you have for your website, it will determine how to approach search engine ranking. If we are looking for a quick fix here, it ain't gonna happen. Getting rich overnight is not the reality of the Internet.

A few things to keep in mind as a basis for a great website is; good content, new things added to the site often, easy navigation, a good color scheme and lots of marketing/promotion of the site on your part. Also put your website information on all printed material, in all your emails and refer others to it often. Adding a couple of relevant freebies to download periodically will keep them coming back for more. These are few basic things to be consistent in and over time you will see results.

INSIGHTS

Take a look at some key issues I have found when submitting a website site to a huge array of search engines including Christ centered search engines.
  1. The majority of search engines permit submission once a month. Be careful to follow the rules on this one. One can be blacklisted from a search engine when the submission guidelines have been abused.

  2. Not all search engines list the same information in their listings even though it is submitted in code. Some search engines bypass the code (Meta tags) submitted and crawl the first page on the site, usually referred to as the index page.
  3. Not all search engines are alike; some post a new submission the same day, others in 2 weeks, or even can take up to 4 months. It depends on their submission process. SEE below.

  4. Many times a particular search engine will crawl your site from time to time and pick up any changes that were added. This is why adding new content often is really a good idea.

  5. Search engine submission can be done by the website owner, SEE search engine list. There is considerable time involved in submitting your site. Each search engine will ask for a different input of information which, makes the process a little time consuming but well worth the work involved.
Here are what a couple of responses when a site has been submitted to Yahoo and Google.
  • Yahoo search engine submit reply: Thank you! Your URL has been added to our list of URLs to crawl. Please expect a delay of several weeks before your URL is crawled.

  • Google search engine submit reply: Thank you, your site URL has been successfully added to our list of URLs to crawl. Please note that we do not add all submitted URLs to our index, and we cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if they will appear.

WEBSITE PROMOTION

What does it take to get noticed on the net? Submission to search engines, word-of-mouth, online and offline website promotion and a well-planned site that is regularly maintained. Your website is an extension of your ministry or business. Make the most of the inexpensive advertising that is available to you in reaching the world 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Maybe your website needs an overhaul? Take a look at your current key words and site description in your Meta tags. This is an area that needs to be tweaked often times. When you are comfortable with the new Meta tags, make sure to add the new keywords in the content of the page. You may have to re-submit to the search engines in order to ensure that the new changes will be available to potential clients and web searchers, especially if you have re-vamped your Meta tags. A little effort can have long lasting effects in "Getting noticed on the Web."
