Hype over using flash in websites

This is a topic that has come up numerous times with my clients and others who have inquired with Roz designz. There are pros and cons to using flash in a website and we'll explore a few in this article.

The Raven: Roz designz. I have asked myself at times, why are we so attracted to the shiny things like the raven spoken of in the Bible? Who gathers and collects things into their nests that are of no real significance or value, they are just shiny. We all have a little of the raven nature within us. We can lose our focus and perspective on things and become attracted to the shiny things.

Over the years in web development there has been astronomical changes in the way people view the web and how that information is assimilated. Technology goes beyond the limits of the cutting edge and keeping up is the challenge at hand. Web page development is now interactive, graphical, fun, flashy, and technologically advanced. Many of us spend a considerable amount of time here in the USA and abroad catching up to that cutting edge of technology advancement via the www.

I am one that loves flash websites, moving graphics and of course the larger the better, as long as you have broadband, LOL. I personally am advancing in graphic imagery and thoroughly enjoy it as well passing any advancement on to my clients. For several years now I have come to realize that everyone is not as fortunate as myself to have broadband or the latest Windows software. As a Christian design company mainly working with Christians in areas of ministry, missions, and local churches, it's clear to see that no two computers are alike. Especially when reaching out internationally in ministry and business.

I guess the fair question to ask is, how global do you want to be? The Internet is worldwide and global is the name of the game. The main objective of a website is targeting visitors and potential clients to that website. Consideration of their web capabilities is crucial in the ultimate plan of a website. A Christian youth group in the United States for instance would be a prefect candidate for a flash oriented website. Again not using total flash but integration of flash as a major variable.

According to many corporate site developers and major Christian ministries on the web, flash is something that should be used sparingly if at all. Articles have stated that it draws one's attention to the flashing [shiny things] and they are not focusing on the information and products offered on the site. My husband has commented several times about some of his newsworthy websites being so distracting because of the flashing. He has stated that when he is on the verge of annoyance will most often move on to another site to avoid the distraction.

Simple Flash Presentation

So what do we do with this flash technology? Is it here to stay? That is hard to predict. If flash is something that is a must for your website, using it on a splash page or on the home page in a small area is ideal. When deciding that flash is to be incorporated on a splash page, remember people are very impatient and do not like to wait including yours truly. An option to skip the intro [splash page] is vital to that person clicking into your website. Flash is fun and very creative. It shows how much talent is out there and what technology can offer in the graphical area of creativity.

Flash is a great tool when used wisely in attracting our targeted audience. If it is mere competition of talent we are missing the mark. Technology is for our advantage and we must make the most of it. As Christian's, our objective is always advancing the kingdom of God. I personally am looking at ways to accommodate my clients when implementing flash into their websites. The www is a force and can be free flowing if we jump in that river and give it our all. Godspeed to you as you work towards the mark, which is your potential. Technology awaits your admittance so take the leap! You're worth every nanosecond!
